General Questions

What is Schengen travel insurance?
Schengen travel insurance is a mandatory health and travel insurance policy required for all non-EU nationals applying for a Schengen visa. It must provide a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 for medical expenses, hospitalization, and emergency repatriation, and must be valid across all 29 Schengen member states. This requirement is defined by the EU Visa Code (Regulation EC No. 810/2009).
Why do I need Schengen insurance?
Without a valid insurance certificate that meets EU Visa Code requirements, your Schengen visa application will be rejected by the consulate. Even for visa-exempt travelers, insurance is strongly recommended — medical care in Europe can be extremely expensive, and a hospital stay can cost thousands of euros.
Is the insurance valid for all Schengen countries?
Yes. All policies on schengen-insure.eu cover all 29 Schengen member states: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Do I need insurance if I'm from a visa-exempt country?
Citizens of visa-exempt countries (USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, etc.) are not legally required to have insurance, but it is strongly recommended. Medical care in Europe is very expensive, your domestic insurance likely doesn't cover you abroad, and some border officers may request proof of insurance upon entry.

Coverage & Benefits

What does the insurance cover?
All plans cover medical expenses, emergency hospitalization, emergency dental care, medical evacuation, repatriation to your home country, and repatriation of remains. Higher-tier plans also cover baggage loss, personal liability, prescribed medicine, risk sports and 24/7 premium assistance.
How much coverage do I need?
The minimum required by EU regulations is EUR 30,000. However, we recommend EUR 50,000 or EUR 100,000 coverage, especially for longer trips or travel to countries with expensive healthcare like Switzerland, Norway, or Germany.
Are pre-existing conditions covered?
Pre-existing medical conditions are generally not covered by standard policies. If you have a pre-existing condition, please review the specific terms of each plan or contact our support team for guidance on finding appropriate coverage.
What is typically NOT covered?
Common exclusions include pre-existing conditions, injuries under the influence of alcohol/drugs, extreme sports (unless covered by a rider), routine checkups, cosmetic procedures, incidents from illegal activities, war/terrorism, and self-inflicted injuries. Always review the full terms before purchasing.

Purchase & Certificates

How quickly will I receive my certificate?
Instantly. Your visa-ready insurance certificate is automatically generated and emailed within minutes of payment. It includes all information required by consulates and is ready to submit with your visa application.
What documents do I need for my visa application?
For the insurance portion of your visa application, you only need the insurance certificate we provide. It contains your personal details, coverage amount, territorial validity (all Schengen states), policy dates, and the insurer's information. Simply print it or present the digital version.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) through Stripe, our secure payment processor. All transactions are encrypted with bank-level SSL security.
Can I buy insurance for multiple travelers?
Yes! You can insure multiple travelers in a single transaction — ideal for families, couples, or groups. Each traveler receives their own individual insurance certificate for their visa application.

Changes & Cancellations

Can I get a refund if my visa is denied?
Most plans offer full refunds if cancelled before the coverage start date. Refunds are usually not possible after the insurance period has started. For visa denials, some providers offer special cancellation terms upon presentation of the official denial letter. Contact our support team for assistance.
Can I change my travel dates after purchase?
Date changes depend on the provider and plan. In most cases, changes can be made before the coverage start date. Contact our support team at [email protected] with your policy number and we'll help you modify your dates.
How long is Schengen travel insurance valid?
Your insurance is valid for the exact dates you select when purchasing. Coverage dates must match or exceed your travel dates, including arrival and departure days. Single-trip policies cover from a few days to 3 years.

Claims & Support

How do I file a claim?
For anything medical — urgent or not — contact your insurer's 24/7 assistance line. The number is on your assistance card, which you receive together with your policy documents. The assistance team arranges treatment and, where possible, settles the bill directly with the provider. For everything else — questions about your policy, your documents or a refund — write to us at [email protected] and include your policy number.
What should I do in a medical emergency abroad?
Call local emergency services (112 in all EU countries), then contact the 24/7 emergency assistance number on your assistance card. Keep all receipts and medical documentation. The assistance team will help coordinate your care and handle direct billing where possible.
How do I contact customer support?
You can reach us at [email protected]. Our team responds within 2 hours during business hours (Mon-Fri 9:00-18:00 CET). For anything medical — at any time, urgent or not — use the 24/7 assistance line on your assistance card instead; the assistance team handles treatment directly with your insurer.
